Expressing your gratitude for someone else by saying “good job” is a very lousy way to compliment or thank someone. The same goes for “great work”, “awesome job” and all the other two or three words variations.
If you truly want a person to feel appreciated, then you should compliment the effort and the effect it had on you.
Why should you care so much about people feeling appreciated?
Because people who truly feel appreciated tend to care more and contribute more frequently, and you should want people to care and contribute either to your life or to your organization.
Here is a template you can copy and paste:
“I appreciate the efforts you put towards __________. Moreover, it means a lot to me because _________. I see that you care and I wanted to thank you for ________.” (you can also exchange “efforts” at the beginning with the actual series of tasks the person was doing)
This template is a great start, and I hope that over time you won’t need it, as you will come up with your own creative ways to make someone feel appreciated and important.
If you’ve been reading my daily posts for a while or even if this is just your first post, I want you to acknowledge the time you took out of your day to spend with me. It truly means a lot to me and it is the fuel I need to keep on going. Thank you, my friends, for all the great support.
